Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan has withdrawn his support for a Republican State Assembly member from Wisconsin who made controversial comments about rape.

Roger Rivard told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal that when he was young his father warned him about pre-marital sex, telling him that "some girls rape easy".

In August Republican Senate hopeful Todd Akin refused to withdraw his candidacy after suggesting that he didn't support abortions for rape victims because "if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”
