The University of Bedfordshire has rescinded an honorary doctorate it awarded to Jimmy Savile in 2009, The Telegraph reported.
“The board of governors’ nominations and honours committee met last night to confirm that the honorary degree would be rescinded,” a university spokesman said today.
“The honorary award was in recognition of his charitable fund-raising. It was given in good faith without the knowledge of the current very serious allegations.”
The Telegraph reported that Jimmy Savile joked on a television broadcast ahead of the degree ceremony that he had "not been found out yet.”
