Police appeal for witnesses in river rescue

Police have appealed for witnesses who may have seen a car leave the road and enter the Avon River at St Philip's Bridge at Temple Back in Bristol. The incident happened around 4am this morning.

Inspector Paul Winship of Avon and Somerset Police said:

We are obviously appealing for witnesses. It's a very busy part of Bristol even at 4 o'clock on a Saturday morning.

Fire and ambulance were also at the scene. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

The scene is still closed while we are continuing with our inquiries.
