A spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Major Laurence Roche, has given this statement regarding the two soldiers who were killed in Afghanistan today:

This is dreadful news for all of us serving in Afghanistan. Our sincere condolences go to their families, friends and colleagues at this time of grief.
Tributes paid to sporty soldier killed in Afghanistan
Tributes have been paid to Channing Day, a medic with 3 Medical Regiment, who was killed on patrol in Afghanistan on Wednesday.

It is still not clear exactly what happened. But a young woman is dead and a young Marine from 40 Commando has died beside her.
