Israel's ambassador to the UK, Daniel Taub, has defended the assault on Gaza.
He told Daybreak : "We've had over 800 rockets and missiles since the beginning of the year and I don't think any country in that situation could sit still and do nothing."
"Ideally what we want to see is a peace treaty. Unfortunately in Hamas in the Gaza strip we have a group who is dedicated to the distraction of Israel "
Today's bombing in Tel Aviv is reminiscent of six years ago and could mark a serious escalation in the conflict.
A truce in Gaza suits all sides but none of the groups seem interested in a long-lasting solution.
A complex system of air defences has been instrumental in protecting Israel's population from incoming rockets.
