New Labour MP criticises awareness of PCC elections

The new MP for Manchester Central has criticised the lack of awareness of the PCC elections.

Labour's Lucy Powell said: "They (the Conservatives) did absolutely everything they could to make this policy fail.

"They have held the elections at the wrong time of year.

"They have made the deposits so high that no independent or other people could stand and they have not allowed any candidates to have the usual freepost information which people so badly need in these elections.

"There has been very little awareness of the election as well and I think the Government is to blame for that."
