Electing police commissions cost '£14 a vote'

Voting for police commissioners cost the taxpayer £14 per vote, making it the most expensive election in British history, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The poll cost £75 million to administer, with just 5.34m people voting - around one in six.

Yet the 2010 General Election cost £2.86 a vote, as 29.7m people voted at a cost of £85m, the newspaper said.
