Tens of thousands of people marched in cities across France today to protest against government plans to legalise same-sex marriage.

Demonstrators took to the streets in Paris, Lyon, Marseille and other major towns.

The organisation behind the protests, called "Demos for All", claims that the government's reforms would create "major and dangerous upheaval".

Organisers said 200,000 people demonstrated in Paris, compared with a police estimate of 70,000.
