Egyptian PM: Deal to stop fighting could be close

Egypt's efforts to negotiate a truce between Israel and Palestinians in Gaza are ongoing and a deal to stop the fighting could be close, the Egyptian Prime Minister told Reuters.

Negotiations are going on as we speak and I hope we will reach something soon that will stop this violence and counter violence. I think we are close, but the nature of this kind of negotiation, (means) it is very difficult to predict.

Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal

Egypt has announced a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas that is set to begin at 7pm UK time. The announcement was made by the Egyptian foreign minister in Cairo alongside US Secretary if State Hillary Clinton.
