Cornwall Council 'up to 100 people need to be evacuated'

A Cornwall Council spokesman said it had received a high number of calls today from concerned homeowners. Others were appealing for sand bags to help prevent further flood damage.

Due to the high volume of calls the fire and rescue service have been prioritising calls to life risk incidents and are not able to deal immediately with calls to flooded properties. There are now serious concerns over Millbrook with reports of up to 100 people from 40 properties needing to be evacuated. The agencies are dealing with this now. A rest centre is being set up in the Methodist Church. All areas are being monitored and resources are being sent to priority incidents.

Risk of floods as rivers swell

Swollen rivers are still at risk of flooding over the next few days, the Environment Agency has said, as icy temperatures take hold of the UK. The rivers Thames, Trent and Severn remain at very high levels despite the improving weather.
