The education watchdog Ofsted has "named and shamed" local authorities who have a high number of schools falling below the good and excellent mark.

Ofsted: Top and bottom local authority areas in England

Ofsted's annual report has revealed the five top and bottom local authority areas in England.

It shows the percentage of pupils attending good or outstanding primary schools in these areas. The report points out that these inequalities are not due to socio-economic factors.

  • Sefton (90%)
  • Trafford (90%)

Bottom five

  • Coventry (42%)
  • Derby (43%)
  • Thurrock (49%)
