Children in England are left in care for nearly 21 months on average before being adopted, according to new Department for Education figures.
In some areas, youngsters are forced to wait almost three years before moving in with an adoptive family.
Children now face a 636-day wait on average, equivalent to almost 21 months, between entering care and moving in with an adoptive family.
- Longest average waiting time: Kensington and Chelsea (1,082 days)
- Second longest average waiting time: Wolverhampton (936 days)
- Shortest average wait: West Berkshire (405 days)
The Government has set a threshold of 21 months (639 days) between children being taken into care and moving in with an adoptive family.
