US President barack Obama has warned Syria's President Assad not to use chemical weapons or 'there will be consequences'.
"The world is watching," Obama said in remarks to a gathering of nuclear proliferation experts.
"The use of chemical weapons is and would be totally unacceptable and if you make the tragic mistake of using these weapons there will be consequences and you will be held accountable," Obama said.
General Richard Myers has told ITV News that the real threat in Syria is from Islamist groups using chemical weapons - not President Assad.
NATO agrees to deploys Patriot missiles along the Syria/Turkey border but denies claims that it is taking an active role in the conflict.
