Transport cost increases hit family purses

The average UK household spent £65.70 each week on transport costs in 2011. This is an increase of 80p since 2010. The largest expenditure categories for the UK households, in order, were:

  • Transport
  • Recreation and culture
  • Housing (not including mortgages)
  • Fuel and power

Family spending at record high

The average UK household spent £438.60 a week last year, an increase of £10 from 2010 and the highest recorded by the Office of National Statistics.
