One person has died and 10 people have been injured in a nine-vehicle collision on the M6 southbound in Cheshire.
Three of those hurt suffered serious injuries, two of which are life threatening, Cheshire Police said. The remaining seven suffered minor injuries.
All the casualties have been taken to hospital, with two flown by air ambulance.
The collision occurred late this morning at junction 16 and involved two vans, two HGVs and five cars.
The southbound carriageway has been shut between junctions 16 and 18 and is likely to be closed for approximately four hours, police said.
