UKIP knocks Lib Dems to fourth place in poll

The UK Independence Party has knocked the Liberal Democrats into fourth place surging ahead with a record poll rating. The ComRes poll for The Independent on Sunday and the Sunday Mirror puts Ukip on 14 per cent - a six-point gain on last month and the party's highest rating in a ComRes poll.

The poll put the Conservatives on 28 per cent, down three points from a month ago and 11 points behind Labour, who are down four on 39 per cent.Support for the Lib Dems fell to just nine per cent, a one-point fall on the month. The poll was of 2,002 British adults online between December 12 and 14.
