Senate returns to try last minute deal to avoid 'fiscal cliff'

US legislators have returned to Capitol Hill to try and reach a deal to avoid the tax increases and spending cuts known as the "fiscal cliff."

As the deadline for a solution draws near families across America are facing tax increases of around $2,000 in 2013.
