Bolshoi artistic director attacked with acid

The artistic director of the legendary Bolshoi Theatre has been attacked with acid in Moscow in what is thought to be an attack connected to infighting between different groups of dancers and managers at the theatre.

Moscow police said Sergei Filin was attacked last night by a man who splashed acid on to his face as the 43-year-old former solo dancer left his car outside his home in central Moscow.

The theatre's press office confirmed to Russian television that Mr Filin's eyesight was under threat.
