Bill Tarmey remembered at National Television Awards

Colleagues remembered actor Bill Tarmey, as the Coronation Street cast collected two prizes, at the National Television Awards last night.

Alan Halsall, who plays Tarmey's on-screen foster son Tyrone won the award for best serial drama performance, with the ITV soap named as best serial drama.

Speaking on stage as he collected his award, Halsall paid tribute to Tarmey, saying "I love you pal."

Bill Tarmey died last year after playing Jack Duckworth in the soap for more than 30 years.

Collecting the award for best serial drama, Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson said: "This year we lost a stalwart of Coronation Street who was just so much a part of everybody's life for a long time, Bill Tarmey, and so I think we'd love to dedicate this to Bill."
