Riot police have been trying to clear anti-government demonstrators from Tahrir Square in the Egyptian capital Cairo overnight.
The police could be seen setting fire to makeshift tents in the square and beating up at least one protester.
Demonstrations are expected today marking the second anniversary of the uprising that toppled President Hosni Mubarak.
