The Met Office has issued a weather warning for heavy snow this afternoon in three areas:
- East Midlands (Amber)
- East of England (Amber)
- London and South East England (Amber)
The Met Office said there could be 10 cm of snowfall within two or three hours in the affected areas:
Snow will continue across parts of eastern England during the early hours of Saturday morning, although it may turn briefly to rain as it clears. Some heavy snowfall may occur, particularly towards the north of the Amber warning area, and across the Chilterns, where 5 to 10 cm of snowfall may accumulate in just 2 or 3 hours. The sleet and snow will ease, then clear before dawn.
The public should be prepared for some disruption, particularly to travel, within the affected area.
The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings and flood alerts across the UK.
Milder temperatures overnight will cause snow to thaw rapidly, with heavy rain expected to bring the risk of flooding in England and Wales.
