Man held over Union flag demonstrations in Belfast

Police in Northern Ireland have arrested a 42-year-old man after a protest linked to the Union flag controversy.

He was detained in east Belfast this afternoon fro obstruction, assault on police and resisting arrest. He is currently in police custody.

Several hundred loyalists gathered in Belfast city centre to protest against restrictions imposed on flying the Union flag over City Hall. Earlier, there was a large police presence apparent near Castlecreagh Street.
