A man harassed by a self-styled Muslim patrol gang has contacted the police after a public appeal.
Scotland Yard are investigating a number of incidents reported around the Whitechapel area of east London, after the group were filmed verbally attacking members of the public.
Last Thursday police issued an appeal for a man seen in a YouTube video entitled "Muslim vigilantes in London harass and taunt gay male" to come forward. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said:
The man contacted officers today and he is currently being interviewed by officers at an east London police station.
The video shows the gang hurling homophobic abuse at the man.
A second video posted online shows the gang ordering another man to pour away his alcohol as there was "no drink in this area, it's a Muslim area."
The Police said they were taking the incidents "very seriously."
