Israel's defence minister has implied responsibility for an airstrike on a military site near Damascus last week. President Bashar al-Assad has accused Israel of trying to destabilise Syria.

Israeli airstrike 'hit a convoy of lorries'

Earlier today reports suggested planes had struck a convoy carrying weapons from Syria to Lebanon.

The Associated Press reports the shipment included Russian-made SA-17 anti-aircraft missiles, which could pose a serious threat to the region's balance of power if they fall in the hands of Iranian-backed Hezbollah.
