Speaking backstage, director Quentin Tarantino has said he sees Django Unchained as the second part in a trilogy following on from his Second World War film Inglourious Basterds.
He said both films were about righting the wrongs of history, adding: "I think there's something about this that begs a trilogy, three movies that go on this train and then drop it. I don't know what the third one's going to be yet."
Stars braving the rain-soaked red carpet at the Bafta awards chose to play it safe, with many dressing in black.
Argo was the big winner at the Bafta awards, scooping Best Film, Best Director for Ben Affleck and Best Editing.
