Five dead on cruise ship

Five people have been killed and three injured when a lifeboat fell into the sea from a cruise ship docked at the port of Santa Cruz in the Canary Islands. Three of the crew members were Indonesian, one was Filipino and the fifth was Ghanaian.

Transport union: 'Issue of safety' in cruise ship mishap

The National Union for Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) have responded to the cruise ship accident, which left five crew members dead, after a lifeboat fell from the cruise ship. RMT general secretary said:

The thoughts of all seafarers will be with the friends and families of those who have lost their lives in this tragic incident.

Once again the spotlight is on the issue of safety in the UK shipping and cruise industry and RMT awaits the outcome of the investigation and recommendations that can prevent any repetition of today's shocking events.
