Thousands protest against austerity in Spain
Thousands of people angry about austerity measures imposed by the Spanish government, have gathered in central Madrid to peacefully voice their opposition.
The demonstrations coincide with the 32nd anniversary of a failed attempt by the armed forces to overthrow the government.
Similar protests are planned in 86 Spanish cities. The government says it must impose cuts to avoid a financial bail out.
The economy is in its second recession in three years and 26% of Spain's population are unemployed.
