G4S, the firm at the centre of the Olympics security shambles, has won a new three-year contract to provide a range of services for British Airways at Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

The firm, which has had a contract with the airline for more than a decade, will screen passengers, staff baggage and cargo, verify documents, protect aircraft and provide security for buildings.

Adrian Tighe, managing director of G4S Aviation, said: "We have been working closely with British Airways for over a decade and are delighted to be continuing our long-standing relationship as an integral part of their security arrangements.

"This contract will allow us to work in partnership with BA developing improved processes and enhancing levels of customer service."
