Plucky pensioner fights off thief with her crutcthes

A thief who preyed on an elderly woman in the West Midlands got more than he bargained for when she forced him out her home by hitting him over the head with her crutches.

The plucky 81-year-old was alone in her home in Walsgrave Road, Solihull at about 1.30pm on February 22, when the offender knocked on the door.Thinking it was her next-door neighbour, she answered but was forced out of the way by the man who then rummaged through her belongings.

He took £110 cash he found in a purse but fled after the woman used her crutches to hit him over the head.

The thief had a "distinctive large nose", was about 6ft tall, clean-shaven, in his early 20s and of average build, with a very pale complexion and short, wavy black hair.

He wore a calf-length overcoat which was dark navy or black and wore dark bottoms. He spoke in a foreign language.
