Childcare costs 'up 6%'

The cost of a full-time nursery place has doubled in the last ten years, setting parents back around £11,000 a year, a new report has found. Average cost rose by 6% last year.

Childcare 'costs more than private school fees'

Anand Shukla, chief executive of Daycare Trust and the Family and Parenting Institute, said that a report into the cost of nursery fees has shown that "costs are increasingly difficult to manage" for parents.

Families are being expected to pay more for their child's nursery place - an average of £14,000 per year in London - than the fees for many private schools - and this cannot continue.
