Another key sign that the American economy is healing has just emerged. The U.S. economy added 236,000 jobs in February, and the unemployment rate fell to 7.7 per cent.

That's better than expected and will be welcomed in the White House and on Main Streets across America.

Unemployment has been a lagging statistic in the American economy. Stubbornly high, it was a contentious part of the election campaign last year. There was talk that this was a jobless recovery.

Now, finally, perhaps the supertanker that is the American economy is turning, and belatedly bringing jobs in its wake.
