Pope Francis explains his choice of name

Pope Francis has been explaining to the world's press why he chose his name.

He recounted how one of his fellow cardinals had turned to him during the Conclave and said: "Don't forget the poor".

He said he saw Saint Francis of Assisi - who lived in Italy in the 13th century - as a "man of poverty and of peace," and spoke of building a "poor Church and a Church for the poor".

He also said he was inspired by Saint Francis' love of nature, adding that "we are not on very good terms with nature today".
