120 evacuated after London gas leak

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that 120 people have been evacuated after a gas leak:

Police said that firefighters are currently attending a major gas leak which is affecting Enfield town centre near St Andrews Road. Police, London Ambulance Service and engineers from TRANSCO are also at the scene.

Fire crews using specialist detection and monitoring equipment are working with gas engineers to help establish the extent of the leak which is believed to have been caused by road maintenance work.

Two fire engines from Enfield and Southgate fire stations and a fire rescue unit from Edmonton are attending the incident. A 200 metre hazard zone is in place.
