Filmmaker Danny Boyle has admitted he turned down a knighthood because "it's just not me".
The Oscar winner was in line for the New Year Honours list for his work on the London Olympic opening ceremony.
But the 56-year-old said it did not feel right accepting an individual award when a cast of thousands helped create the show.
Speaking to the Radio Times, he said: "You can make these speeches about 'this is everybody's work, blah blah blah'. And you've got to mean it, and I did mean it, and it is true, and it's the only way you can carry on something like that: through the efforts of all the people."
