US President Barack Obama took time out of his diplomatic trip of the Middle East to marvel at the ancient city of Petra. His 24-hour visit to Jordan marked the end of his four-day visit to the region.

Rare rocket attack in Israel coincides with Obama visit

US President Barack Obama will emphasize the importance of reaching an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal later today. His message has been underscored with an attack by Palestinian militants in Gaza who launched rockets into southern Israel earlier today.

One rocket exploded in the courtyard of a house in the border town of Sderot. The other landed in an open field. No one was hurt. Our Middle East Correspondent John Ray says this kind of attack has become rare in recent months.
