Farmers count the cost of worst spring in living memory

Farmers across Northern Ireland and Wales are fearing for their future as the snow inflicts untold damage on their livestock.

Some sheep farmers have been trying to dig their flocks out from under deep drifts, but only a few of the animals they find have survived.

Big freeze 'for another month'

The Met Office has warned the freezing weather could last until the end of April, suggesting that temperatures are unlikely to recover to normal averages until the latter part of next month. Hundreds are facing a sixth day without power in Scotland.
