Decision to close LGI children's heart unit 'unjustifiable'

With the very serious doubt about the reliability of the evidence that has led to this decision, the Secretary of State for Health should step in and lift the suspension of children's heart surgery in Leeds.

This unjustifiable and disgracefully made decision to close the unit yesterday means children and their families will have to travel miles to other centres and all on the basis of a deeply flawed decision.

The data which led to the unit being closed has to be released as do the locations of the surgeons, who are not based in Leeds, who have raised concerns

A clear assurance must be given now that the review will be independent and will not involve the individuals who have raised concerns about Leeds.

– Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West
