Measles outbreak: Numbers expected to rise

Figures released later today are expected to show that the Swansea measles epidemic is continuing to grow.

So far 541 people have been diagnosed with the virus since November.

Doctors have said the potentially fatal virus is spreading at an "alarming rate" and have issued an urgent appeal for children to be inoculated.

Measles cases rise to 886

Public Health Wales has reported that the number of measles cases has risen to 886, as children have gone back to school after Easter. 25-year-old Gareth Williams died during the epidemic, it has not been confirmed whether measles was the cause.
