Organ donations rise by 50%

The number of people donating organs after death has risen by 50 per cent in the last five years, beating the target set by the NHS in 2008. Over the last year more than 1,200 people donated organs, helping to save 3,100 lives.

Families urged to talk about organ donation plans

Elisabeth Buggins, the chair of the UK Organ Donation Taskforce, has urged people to discuss their intentions for their organs with loved ones.

She told ITV News presenter James Mates that talking about the issue helps to avoid grief stricken decisions which can burden families at times of death.
