A Met Police sergeant has resigned over offensive comments he posted on Twitter about Margaret Thatcher following her death. Jeremy Scott was facing an internal disciplinary body investigation after newspapers reported his messages this morning.

Met Police sergeant investigated over 'Thatcher tweets'

A Scotland Yard sergeant is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police's disciplinary body regarding comments he allegedly posted on Twitter about Margaret Thatcher following her death.

He reportedly tweeted from the account @thinbluespeck, which has now been deleted: "Goodnight Twitter. The world is a better place today now that c*** is dead. Now for Cameron, May and Osborne."

We are aware of comments made by serving MPS officer on a social networking site.

The officer reported this matter on Wednesday 10 April to the Directorate of Professional Standards who is now looking at this.

The officerworks in an operational support role within service.

He is not a frontline police officer. We are not prepared to discuss further.
