Graphic designer Storm Thorgerson, arguably best known for his Dark Side of the Moon album artwork, has died, Pink Floyd musician Dave Gilmour said today.

"He has been a constant force in my life, both at work and in private, a shoulder to cry on and a great friend," wrote Gilmour.

"The artworks that he created for Pink Floyd from 1968 to the present day have been an inseparable part of our work."

Thorgerson was born in Potters Bar in 1944 and studied English and Philosophy at Leicester University as well as Film and TV at the Royal College of Art.
