Dhaka city development authority has filed a case against the owners of a building that collapsed yesterday for faulty construction.
It filed another case against the owner and the five garments factories housed in the building for causing unlawful death, police chief Habibur Rahman said.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association president Mohammad Atiqul Islam said there were 3,122 workers in the factories when the collapse occurred, despite the fact that local officials indicated cracks had been found in the building the day before.
A young woman has been freed from the wreckage of a building in the Bangladeshi capital 17 days after its collapse killed hundreds.
The Bangladesh High Commissioner has told me he believes that Western companies share some of the blame for conditions in Dhaka's factories.
Primark, who bought products from the factories in the destroyed Rana Plaza in Dhaka, will pay compensation to the families of the victims.
