President Assad visits university in rare appearance

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad made a rare public appearance on Saturday and visited a student campus in Damascus.

Assad inaugurated a statue dedicated to Martyrs from Syrian universities who died in the country's two-year-old uprising and civil war.

The Syrian leader was greeted by hundreds of people, most of them students, before opening the new work.
