Evans Commons duties on hold

Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons Nigel Evans will not resume chairing duties in the chamber while police investigations continue into allegations of rape and sexual assault, a Commons spokesman said. Mr Evans denies the allegations.

Deputy Commons Speaker Nigel Evans to make a statement

Deputy House of Commons Speaker Nigel Evans is expected to make a statement this morning after his release on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault yesterday.

The alleged offences involving two men took place between July 2009 and March 2013, police said.
