Boat safety cord 'not attached'

The driver of a speedboat which killed two members of the same family as it raged out of control in Cornwall was not attached to a safety device designed to cut power in an emergency, an investigators' report concluded.

Initial reports say speedboat struck people in water

A spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said initial reports were that a speedboat had struck a number of people in the water in Padstow, Cornwall and it was thought these people might have been thrown off the boat.

The search and rescue operation was undertaken by RNLI lifeboats from Rock and Padstow, Cornwall, and helicopters from RNAS Culdrose, Cornwall and RMB Chivenor, Devon, plus three coastguard rescue teams from Polzeath, St Merryn and Newquay, all Cornwall.
