Nigel Evans: 'Worst 24 hours of my life'

Conservative MP Nigel Evans has spoken briefly outside his local pub after being arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault.

He said that it had been "the worst 24 hours of my life". But he thanked his friends and supporters for their "amazing and overwhelming" support.

Evans Commons duties on hold

Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons Nigel Evans will not resume chairing duties in the chamber while police investigations continue into allegations of rape and sexual assault, a Commons spokesman said. Mr Evans denies the allegations.
