Solicitor: Nigel Evans not intending to stand down

Tory MP Nigel Evans' solicitor has said he is not intending to stand down either as Deputy Speaker or MP after his arrest on suspicion of rape and sexual assault.

The Deputy Commons Speakers has said the alleged attacks on two men are "completely false".

Evans Commons duties on hold

Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons Nigel Evans will not resume chairing duties in the chamber while police investigations continue into allegations of rape and sexual assault, a Commons spokesman said. Mr Evans denies the allegations.
