Volcano erupts in Philippines killing five climbers

At least five climbers have died in the Philippines after one of the countries most active volcanoes erupted.

Rescue workers are trying to reach more than a dozen mountaineers after Mayon, about 212 miles south east of Manila, suddenly exploded

Officials say it is quite normal for the volcano to erupt, but that climbers were not usually allowed on its slopes if there were reports of seismic activity.

The volcano last erupted three years ago, and has erupted 40 times during the last 400 years
