A friend of one of the Woolwich suspects has claimed to ITV News that MI5 had tried to recruit Michael Adebolajo as a spy approximately six months ago.
The same friend also claims that Adebolajo was detained and tortured by Kenyan security forces while trying to enter Somalia.
British security sources have previously admitted that Adebolajo was stopped en route to Somalia, but have not said in which country.
Whitehall sources refused to either confirm or deny the friend's allegations
