Police have arrested at least three men for making racist comments on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook following the attack on a British soldier near Woolwich Barracks. Faith leaders have called for calm and tolerance.

Three arrested on suspicion of posting 'racist tweets'

Northumbria Police have arrested three men on suspicion of posting racist tweets ahead of a major demonstration by the English Defence League (EDL) in Newcastle today.

Two of the men are from Gateshead and one is from Stockton, a police statement said.
